Trials in Germany for Rwandan militia leaders

Article by Abena A-T

I came upon this story this morning and thought I’d share.  Thanks to a new law in Germany, foreigners who have committed crimes outside of Germany can now be prosecuted for those crimes.

Now, two Rwandan Hutu leaders are being tried in Stuttgart in Germany for ordering heinous acts of violence against civilian populations in the Democratic Republic of Congo.  They’d been living in Germany for 20 years. Guess it goes to show that you never know when the past  will catch up to you.  But they haven’t yet been charged, so we’ll see what these trials uncover.
