Poet Maxine Tynes leaves us…

“The woman I am in my dreams
breaks all the rules about shoes
wears them high and red
with killer spike heels
moves from Nikes to spikes
and the kind of pumps
that go with a dress
and having your hair done.”

She was the first poet I’d ever seen. A black woman. My parents took me to her reading. They bought me a copy of her book “Borrowed Beauty” and she signed it.  That reading was an introduction to poetry and eventually, becoming a poet…
